Vanilla Sponge Cake

Do you like a cake? Many of us will answer "Yes". Cakes don't have country, gender, race, age and many such discriminating factors. It is prepared and served all over the world on various occasions. May it be a birthday, an anniversary, a wedding or any other kind of celebration, that can hardly conclude without a cake. Not just that, but it can be a good and delicious option for tea-time snacks. And, we can prepare it easily with the minimal things that are present in our kitchen.

The simple cake recipe that I am going to show today here won't take much prep time, won't require any fancy ingredients. And, two more things: it does not require oven for baking and it is eggless.

Yeah, really!! Yet, it will turn out to be very spongy and delicious that you would wish to prepare it quite often. So, let's get started!


  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cups powdered sugar (You can add 2 teaspoons extra sugar, if you like little more sweet.)
  • 3 Tablespoon refind oil
  • 1/2 cups yoghurt
  • 1/2 cups milk
  • 4-5 drops of vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cups tutti frutti (Optional)


  • Take tutti frutti in a bowl, add 1 teaspoon all purpose flour into it and mix it well.
  • Take a frying pan or you make take pressure cooker as well. If you are taking pressure cooker then don't forget to remove its gasket and whistle.
  • Cover the bottom of frying pan/pressure cooker with a half inch layer of common salt and keep a plate over it. Cover the frying pan/pressure cooker with the lid. And, preheat it on medium/low flame.
  • Meanwhile, take oil and yoghurt in a mixing bowl. Mix it well.
  • Then add powdered sugar to it and beat it until it starts becoming little thick.
  • Then add milk and vanilla essence to the mixture and beat it well. It makes the cake light and fluffy.
  • Now, sift all purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda into the mixture. Mix it well with the help of a spatula. But, do it gently!
  • Add tutti frutti and give it a stir.
  • Grease cake mould with little oil or ghee and sprinkle some all purpose flour on it. Remove excess flour by tapping on it.
  • Pour the cake batter into the mould and keep it inside the preheated frying pan/cooker. Cover it with lid.
  • Turn the flame to low and bake the cake at least for 50 minutes.
  • Check the cake after 50 minutes, its sides should turn light brown. You can prick it with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, then your cake is ready. Turn off the gas and take the cake out. Enjoy the light and delicious cake!


  • १ १/४ वाटी मैदा
  • १/२ वाटी पिठी साखर (२ टीस्पून अजून, जर तुम्हाला किंचित जास्त गोड केक हवा असेल तर!)
  • ३ चमचे रिफाईंड तेल
  • १/२ वाटी गोड दही
  • १/२ वाटी दूध
  • ४-५ थेंब व्हॅनिला इसेन्स
  • ३/४ टीस्पून बेकिंग पावडर
  • १/४ टीस्पून बेकिंग सोडा
  • १/४ वाटी टूटीफ्रूटी (ऐच्छिक)


  • एका वाटीमध्ये साधारणपणे मूठभर टूटीफ्रूटी घेऊन, त्यामध्ये १ टीस्पून मैदा टाकून नीट मिक्स करून ठेवावे.
  • कढई घेऊन त्याच्या तळाशी मिठाचा एक थर देऊन, ती एकदम मंद आचेवर गरम करत ठेवावी. कढईवर जड झाकण ठेवावे.
  • केकचे भांडे घेऊन त्याला आतून नीट तुपाचा हात लावून त्यावर मैदा भुरभुरावा आणि टिचक्या मारत नीट पसरवून घ्यावा.
  • एका पातेल्यामध्ये तेल व दही घेऊन नीट मिक्स करून घ्यावे.
  • मग त्यामध्ये पिठीसाखर घालून जोरजोरात फेटून घ्यावे.
  • मिश्रण थोडे घट्ट होऊ लागले कि त्यामध्ये दूध आणि व्हॅनिला इसेन्स घालून जोरात फेटावे. जितके जास्त फेटू तितका केक हलका होतो.
  • मग ह्या मिश्रणात मैदा, बेकिंग पावडर, बेकिंग सोडा चाळून घालावे. व हलक्या हाताने नीट फेटून घ्यावे.
  • नंतर टूटीफ्रूटी घालून परत हलक्या हाताने नीट फेटून घ्यावे.
  • मग हे मिश्रण केकच्या भांड्यामध्ये ओतून, ते भांडे कढईमध्ये ठेवून वरून जड झाकण ठेवावे.
  • मंद आचेवर साधारणपणे ५० मिनिटे केक बेक करावा.
  • हा एकदम साधा सोपा केक, घरात असलेल्या साहित्यामध्ये आपण तयार करू शकतो. आणि तरीही खूप हलका आणि चविष्ट होतो.
